Striker Merick Fernandes played a crucial role in steering St. Blaise ‘A’, Amboli to a comfortable 2-0 win against Our Lady of Health ‘A’, Sahar in a Men’s Open quarter-final play-off league match of the 45th Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana Rink Football Tournament 2025 and played under floodlights at the WCG tennis courts on Monday.
The dashing forward scored both the goals which sealed the Amboli team’s success.
Later, in a closely contested match, St. Francis Xavier’s, Kanjurmarg got the better of St. Francis Xavier’s, Vasai by a narrow 1-0 scoreline. Consistent goal-scorer Bharat Barani struck the decisive winning goal for the Kanjurmarg boys.
In a Men’s Veteran’s encounter, Ronnie 7s proved too good for Goal Diggers as they romped to a facile 6-2 victory. The star performance for Ronnie 7s came from Glen Moraes who slammed home four goals. Moraes teammates Edilbert Martis and Melvin Vaz got the other two goals. For Goal Diggers both the goals were scored by Amol Kadam.
