Vijay Gohil stars in Mumbai Police Gymkhana win

A disciplined bowling performance from left-arm spinner Vijay Gohil (6 for 27) inspired Mumbai Police Gymkhana to snatch a narrow 7-run victory against UPL Sponsors XI at the end of the second day of their  two-day second round robin Group-D league match of the 78th Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2025-26, organized jointly by the Commissionerate of Police Greater Mumbai and the Police Shield Committee and played at the Police Gymkhana ground on Sunday.

Left-arm spinner Vijay Gohil (6 for 27) inspired Mumbai Police Gymkhana to snatch a narrow 7-run victory.

Batting first, Mumbai Police were restricted to a low total of 156 all out in 37.1 overs. Nadeem Shaikh top-scored with and unbeaten 37 runs. Rohit Bhere 4 for 36 and Yash Mahale 4 for 51 were UPL Sponsors XI’s best bowlers.

In reply, Mumbai Police rose to the challenge of defending a small total. Gohil picked up wickets at regular intervals and with good support from Amol Tanpure (3 for 50) they dismissed UPL Sponsors XI for 149 all out in 41 overs to complete a deserving win.

Brief scores: Payyade Sports Club 110 all out, 34 overs (Dashrath Chavan 4/16) lost Shivaji Park Gymkhana: 111 for 3, 37.2 overs (Parag Jadhav 38*, Raza Mirza 37). Result: Shivaji Park Gymkhana won by 7 wickets.

Dr. D.Y. Patil SA 265 all out, 53.1 overs (Ranjit Nikam 99, Pranay Kela 40; Mairaj Khan 5/65) beat Parsee Gymkhana159 all out, 48.2 overs (Ishan Mulchandani 77; Karsh Kothari 4/40, Prashant Solanki 3/28). Result: Dr. D.Y. Patil SA won by 106 runs.

Mumbai Police 156 all out, 37.1 overs (Nadeem Shaikh 37*; Rohit Bhere 4/36, Yash Mahale 4/51) beat UPL Sponsors XI 149 all out, 41 overs (Khizar Dafedar 49, Rohan Tambe 45; Vijay Gohil 6/27, Amol Tanpure 3/50). Result: Mumbai Police Gymkhana won by 7 runs.

MCA Colts 120 all out, 28.1 overs (Arjun Dani 36, Makrand Patil 34; Jitendra Paliwal 5/29, Yash Panchal-3/45) lost New Hind Sporting Club 121 for 7, 26.5 overs (Kush Karia 35; Arjun Dani 3/34). Result: New Hind Sporting Club won by 3 wickets.

New Hindu CC 398 all out, 69.4 overs (Prasad Pawar 223 (173-balls, 31×4, 5×6), Gaurav Jathar 54, Ayush Jethwa 51; Kruthik Hanagavadi 5/114 ) beat National CC 125 all out, 25.5 overs (Sairaj Patil 35, Soham Bende 30; Deepak Shetty 4/53, Shreyas Gurav 3/43). Result: New Hindu CC won by 273 runs.

Cricket Club of India 314 for 6, 70 overs (Chinmay Sutar 149*, Saurabh Singh 44, Bins Neyyoth 34, Ayush Jain 31; Saksham Parashar 3/66) beat Bombay Gymkhana 115 all out, 30.5 overs (Bhaiya Kumar 42; Kartik Mishra 4/28, Dhrumil Matkar 4/67). Result: Cricket Club of India won by 199 runs.
