Vinay Chopra from Delhi stole the limelight in the All India Masters’ Table Tennis tournament , which concuded in Bhubaneswar recently. Vinay grabbed four Gold medals, winning the Men’s 59+, Men’s 64+ Singles crown, besides winning two doubles crowns partnering Md. Abbas in Men’s 59+ Men’s doubles and Mantu Murmu in Mixed doubles 59+ events; while Mantu Murmu won two gold medals ( In women’s singles and Mixed doubles) and one silver medal in women’s doubles.
Sumeet Sanghavi also put up a good show by not only winning the Men’s 49+ singles, and being runner-up in the Men’s 39+ singles. He was also runner-up with N.Junaid in the Men’s 39+ doubles event. Fiyaz Ahmed won double Gold, winning Men’s 39+ Singles and Men’s 49+ doubles along with S.R. Das.
P.R. Premkumar from Tamilnadu also scored a double, winning Men’s 69+ singles and Men’s 69+ doubles, partnering B. Vishu. Though Premkumar scored 3-0 victory in the finals opposite Ashutosh Kumar (Delhi) who had earlier beaten B.Vishu in semis; he had a tough time while overcoming Ulhas Shirke( Maharashtra) 3-2 in other semi final.
This prestigious national event which featured male and female paddlers in the 39+, 49+, 59+ & 69+, was organised by Araati 64 Squares Foundation under the auspices of Odisha Government, at the Biju Patnaik TT academy, Bhubaneswar. The participants came from different states like West Bengal, U,P, Delhi, Sikkim, Telangana, A.P., Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra. A total Prize money offered was Rs.1,11,111/- to the winners.
Elaborate arrangements were made at the venue, to provide practice hours, lunch and tea to all the partcipants during the playing hours daily between 10 am and 5.30 pm . As per their local tradition and presented each one of them with mementoes. Thanks to Mr. Smritiranjan Das and his team for making this big event a grand success.
