Renowned Hindi film actress of yesteryears Shashikala Jawalkar Saigal is no more. She passed away yesterday in Mumbai. She was 88. She started acting right from the age of 5 with stage performances and found her place in Hindi films after a lot of struggle at young age. She spent a long innings in Bollywood for more than six decades. She was nominated 8 times for filmfare awards and had won two filmfare awards for best supporting actress for her performance in films like ‘Aarti’ and ‘Gumrah’. After 2005 she was seen in TV serials performing prominent character roles.
Many film personalities have mourned her death and there were many condolence messages seen on social media. Prominent among them were from Legendary Lata Mangeshkar and her co star Dharmendra. It may be recalled that Shashikala was seen in a memorable role in one of Dharmendra’s films ‘Anupama’. He has described her as a versatile artiste and most loving person
