Divya Deshpande, India No.6 and current state champion played a pivot role as Santacruz Gymkhana stormed into the women’s premier division final in the MSDTTA 1st division inter-club table tennis league, hosted by Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana here today. They take on defending champions Mulund Gymkhana for the coveted title. Both notched identical 3-0 wins over New Community Centre (BARC), the othe team in the fray.

Divya first routed Anu Prabhakar 11-2, 11-3, 11-6. Earlir, Shruti Tanikar gave her team a winning start, beating Esha Kurva 11-2,. 11-1, 11-6. The doubles pair of Divya and Shruti thrashed Esha and Anu 11-9, 11-4, 11-9 to wrap up the tie. Holders Mulund Gymkhana,too, did not have to extend themselves with Mrunmayee Mhatre, Charvi Kawle and Priti Mokashi romping home with easy wins over their respective opponents.
Santacruz Gymkhana’s men’s ‘A’ team, too, set for title. Having Nishaad Shah in their ranks, they have emerged unbeaten in the 6-team league. They fce defending champions Andheri YMCA , who did encounter a bit of scar, when JLTTA team of mostly juniors nearly spoiled their winning spree Only their experience saw them through.
