Music duo Lahu- Madhav Score for Cricket based film “KIRKET”

Music duo Lahu-  Madhav seem to have a curious connection with sportsmen. The readers will remember that when tennis player Leander Paes had made his acting debut in “Rajdhani Express”, the music for his film was scored by Lahu – Madhav.

This time, it is for former cricketer and member of the World Cup winning team of 1983 Kirti Azad, who is all set to try his luck in Bollywood with the forthcoming film “KIRKET”. Directed by Yogendra Singh and written by Vishal Vijay Kumar, the film also stars Vishal Tiwari, Sonam Chhabra, Dev Singh, Ajay Upadhyay and Sonu Jha. The film is edited by Tapos Ghosh. Produced by R.K.Jalan, Sonu Jha and Vishal Tiwari this film is co-produced by Yusuf Shaikh and Jagesh Savjani.

When contacted, the music duo Lahu &  Madhav were persistent  that the film is much more than just the debut of Kirti Azad. “The film is a very honest attempt to highlight the discrimination faced by many Indian states,  in the process of selection for the national cricket team”, said Madhav. “The film represents all those talented players who could never get the opportunities they deserved.”

When asked about the music, Lahu said – “There are two main songs in the film. One is a Bihari folk song sung by Shahid Maliya. This song is written by Fanindra Rao. The other song is the main theme song of the film which is written by the well known poet Rajesh Kumar, and sung by Alok Kumar.”

Lahu-  Madhav, who are known to favour live music over computerized sounds, have maintained the same approach for the songs of “Kirket”.  “Live music enables the song to breathe,” says Madhav. “We were very fortunate that the producers and the director of the film gave us a free hand and encouraged us to use live music. The songs are an amalgamation of electronic and live sounds.”

“For example, we have used live strings in collaboration with electronic sound, which gives a fuller body to the texture of the songs”, explains Lahu. “In fact the song sung by Shahid Maliya has an authentic folk feel, with live rhythms arranged beautifully by Hitesh Prasad.”

The film’s poster declares – “Kirti Azad questions Cricket Board”. Therefore,  it will be interesting to see how the administrators are  portrayed in the film.

The film is all set to release  all over India on this Friday, 18th October 2019.
