Pune girl Shreya Patil fought back from the brink to upset the applecart of Nagpur’s Salomi Johnson to squeeze into girls under-15 singles pre-quartefinals in the 7th DY Patil Maharashtra State Open badminton championships, held at their stadium at Nerul here today. The nerve-wrecking tie, in which fortunes fluctuated many a times, ultimately saw Shreya emerging 15-10, 13-15, 15-14victor.
In other engrossing ties in the same section, Greater Mumbai’s Anandita Nair heaved a sigh of relief as she prevailed over Mihika Pathare of Mumbai Suburbs 14-15, 15-13, 15-13, while hosts Raigad’s Harshada Gawade dropped the first game before tightyening her game to score over Thane’s Anuksha Bhise 10-15, 15-10, 15-13 and Satgara’s Isha Valankar defeated Thane’s Siddhi Parulekar 15-7, 12-15, 15-12;
