Former TT Star Renu Menon Passes away

Former Table Tennis star of late 70s Renu Menon passed away today. Renu was wife of international TT legend Late Vilas Menon. Originally from Mandi, Renu studied from St. Bele’s College, Shimla and also played table tennis at Natiobal level representing Himachal Pradesh state. She was a great admirer and a close friend of Vilas Menon and their friendship turned into their marriage soon.

After the untimely death of her husband Vilas, Renu served for Jet Airways and had retired from there. She also promoted the game of table tennis like her husband, by conducting exhibition matches of celebrities on the occasion of his  birth anniversary. Many top celebrities like Kapil Dev, Karsan Ghavri, Nana Patekar, Salim Durani, Archana Puran Singh and others had participated in such exhibition matches.

Renu had also started a trust in the name of her late husband and was helping the poor children by providing them school kits. Well Known industrialist Niraj Bajaj also a former international TT star and a good friend of Vilas, had helped her in this mission. She had also big plans to start training in table tennis for Municipal school children from Mumbai. However, for the past few years, Renu went through difficult times with her health, when she was diagnosed cancer. The news about her sad demise was confirmed by her children Aaliya and Gaurang. Cremation ceremony will take place on Monday, after arrival of her daughter Aaliya who is abroad.

While paying tributes to their dear mother on social media, they said, “Good Bye Mom. You will always be with us. Gone from this world, but never from our hearts. You fought like a warrior and now deserve to be pain free. Love you,”
