Skipper Bista slams ton in Jain Irrigation win


Captain and opening bat Jay Bista batted confidently and smashed a century 122 runs which helped Jain Irrigation defeat Bank of Baroda Sports Club by a convincing 51 runs in the MCA Corporate ‘A’ Division semi-final match at the Dr. D.Y. Patil SA ground, Nerul on Tuesday.

Sent in to bat, Jain Irrigation piled up a massive score of 216 for the loss of just four wickets from their quota of 20 overs.

Bista was aggressive from the outset and his 55-ball innings was studded with 11 sweetly-timed hits to the boundary and nine powerfully struck sixes. He and opening partner Shahshwat Jagtap put together 114 runs for the first wicket in 11.2 overs which set the tone for their big total. Later, Bista and number four bat Sairaj Patil who scored an unbeaten 48 runs (21-balls, 3×4,4×6) added 56 runs for the third wicket in four overs to swell the innings.

In reply, Bank of Baroda started positively with opening bat Chetan Bisht leading the fight with 63 runs (43-balls, 6×4,3×6), but with not much support from the other batter their innings folded for 165 all out in 18 overs. Bisht and Jay Jain who scored 38 runs stitched together 65 runs for the fifth wicket, while Earlier, Bisht and Shivkumar Rakshit (15 runs) were associated in a 45 runs partnership for the fourth wicket. Jain Irrigations left-arm medium pacer Royston Dias took 3 wickets for 15 runs, medium pacer Sairaj Patil claimed 2 wickets for 30 runs and left-arm spinner Ayush Zimare grabbed 2 wickets for 38 runs to clinch their win and a place in the final.

Brief scores – Semi-finals: Jain Irrigation System Ltd 216 for 4, 20 overs (Jay Bista 122, Sairaj Patil 48*, Shashwat Jagtap 24) beat Bank of Baroda 165 all out, 18 overs (Chetan Bisht 63, Jay Jain 38; Royston Dias 3/15, Sairaj Patil 2/30, Ayush Zimare 2/38). Result: Jain Irrigation won by 51 runs.
