With the excitement of home conditions and young cricket talent from different parts of Maharashtra coming together, the Junior State Championship and Selection Trials for Indoor Cricket, recognised by the Maha Indoor Cricket Association, got off to an exciting start in Jalgaon. In the opening Under-15 Boys’ match, hosts Jalgaon defeated Sambhajinagar 71-19, registering a convincing 52-run victory. The tournament is not just about winning a state title; it is also an important platform for young players who dream of reaching the national team and the Junior World Indoor Cricket Championship in South Africa.
Nearly 200 Young Players Take Part
The tournament has received an encouraging response, with nearly 200 boys and girls, along with around 50 coaches, managers and officials, participating. Teams and players from Jalgaon, Thane, Sambhajinagar, Beed, Satara, Nagpur and Amravati are taking part, making the event an important platform for junior indoor cricket in Maharashtra.
Jalgaon Make a Strong Winning Start
In the Under-15 Boys’ opening match, hosts Jalgaon defeated Sambhajinagar 71-19. Playing in front of their home supporters, the Jalgaon players showed an aggressive approach from the beginning and kept control of the match, giving Sambhajinagar very little opportunity to make a comeback.
Manish, Yogendra and Kartik Shine
Manish Pardeshi played an important role in Jalgaon’s victory by scoring 14 runs. Yogendra Bhole contributed 14 runs and took 1 wicket, producing an impressive all-round performance. Kartik scored 9 runs and took 1 wicket. Their performances helped Jalgaon establish a strong grip on the match.
Aryan Pandey Fights Hard for Sambhajinagar
For Sambhajinagar, Aryan Pandey tried to keep his team in the contest by scoring 6 runs and taking 1 wicket. Om Raut and Imran Sheikh also scored 6 runs each. However, the rest of the batting line-up could not handle Jalgaon’s disciplined bowling, and Sambhajinagar were restricted to 19 runs, giving Jalgaon a big 52-run victory.
From the State Championship to the Dream of South Africa
The importance of this tournament goes beyond the state championship and medals. It offers talented players in the Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 categories an opportunity to progress towards the national and international levels. Selected players will get an opportunity to enter the national-level process conducted by the Indian Indoor Sports Foundation (IISF). Players selected further through this process can get the opportunity to represent India at the Junior World Indoor Cricket Championship in South Africa, scheduled from 26 September to 3 October 2026.
Jalgaon Welcomes Young Cricketers with Great Enthusiasm
As the Junior State Championship and Selection Trials are being held in Jalgaon for the first time, the organisers have made extensive preparations for the tournament. Deepak Arde, Kishor Chaudhary, Devdatta Patil, Nilesh Tawde (Corporator), Sagar Patil and Nikhil Patil, along with various organising committees, have worked hard for the successful conduct of the event. The warm welcome given by Jalgaon to the players and representatives from different districts was also appreciated.
Guidance from Kshitij Vedak and Bal Toraskar
The tournament is being conducted under the guidance of Kshitij Vedak, Founder Chairman, Maha Indoor Cricket Association, and Balasaheb (Bal) Toraskar, Founder General Secretary, Maha Indoor Cricket Association. Rajendra Ikhnkar has also played an important role in the organisation of the tournament. The main objective is to provide young players with a proper platform and help develop future national and international indoor cricket players.
Selection Committee Keeps a Close Watch
The responsibility of identifying talented players has been entrusted to the selection committee comprising Vaishali Bhide-Barve, Omkar Patole and their colleagues. The committee is closely observing the players’ skills, consistency, match performance and ability to take the right decisions under pressure.
Experienced Umpires Ensure Discipline
The matches are being conducted smoothly and according to the rules under the supervision of umpires Namdev Hatkar, Rakesh Bhalerao, Sushant Jadhav, Sachin Sonawane, Kshitij Sonawane and Sujar Varade. Their decisions and match management are helping maintain discipline throughout the competition.
