Mumbai Sports, an organisation working to promote sports and strengthen the sporting culture in the city, has invited nominations for its 2025-26 ‘Sportspersons of the Year’ Awards. The last date to submit nominations is July 31.
The awards aim to recognise and encourage sportspersons from Mumbai who have achieved excellence at the State, National and International levels. Started two years ago, this initiative has become an important platform for encouraging talented athletes.
Selection Committee
The nominations will be screened by a committee chaired by Madhukar Talwalkar. The committee members include Neelima Adsul (District Sports Officer, Mumbai City), Jaya Shetty, Pradeep Gandhe, Sanjay Gharpure and Sandeep Kadam.
The selection process also involves representatives from leading sportspersons of Mumbai, the Sports Department, the Mumbai Sports Journalists Association and the Mumbai Marathi Sports Journalists Association, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.
Award Ceremony on August 29
The award presentation ceremony will be held on August 29 at the Bunts Sangha Hall, Kurla, Mumbai. The winner will receive a prize of ₹1 lakh along with a memento of honour. The awards are expected to inspire and motivate talented sportspersons across Mumbai.
Eligibility and Nominations
Any permanent resident of Mumbai who has excelled in a recognised sport at the State, National or International level is eligible to apply. Sportspersons can submit their own nominations, or nominations can be sent by their respective sports associations or federations. Support for the Initiative
Sports patron Madhukar Talwalkar has committed to sponsoring the ₹1 lakh cash award every year for five years. This year, Jay Kavali has contributed ₹1 lakh towards the prize money.
The Sherdil Bunts Federation of Mumbai is providing the venue and other facilities for the event.
