Ojas sends top seed Sanklap crashing out

Unseeded Ojas Gedam of Akola caused a major upset defeating top seed Sanklap Chandragurala of Nagpur in two games, winning at 15-10, 15-4 in a men’s singles pre-quarter-final match of the Yonex Sunrise Manoj Ramchandra Memorial State Open Badminton Tournament 2026, conducted by the North Indian Association and Jitesh Padukone Academy, under the auspices of the Maharashtra Badminton Association and played at the Matunga Gymkhana courts. The tournament is being supported jointly by SVC Co-Operative Bank and Saraswat Co-Operative Bank.

Meanwhile, Mumbai’s promising talent Harshit Mahimkar had things under control as he defeated Pune’s Sujal Lakhari 15-11, 15-13 to advance to the men’s singles quarter-finals.

Fifth seed Nishika Gokhe got the better of fourth seed Shreya Shelar 15-7, 15-11 in a women’s singles quarter-final match.

In women’s singles quarter-final matches, number one seed Purva Barve of Pune overcame Vanshika Tulsani 15-8, 15-7 and fifth seed Nishika Gokhe got the better of fourth seed Shreya Shelar 15-7, 15-11 to set up a clash in the semi-finals.
