Reuben’s twin strikes leads Catholic Gym to easy win

Inspired by the brilliance of enterprising striker Reuben Fernandes,  who struck two goals, which powered Catholic Gymkhana to an authoritative 4-1 win against Naval Dockyard in a Mumbai Football Association (MFA) Super Corporate League and played at the Karnatak SA ground, Churchgate.

Catholic Gymkhana enjoyed a 2-1 half time lead. Reuben’s teammates Kastubh Meher and Karan Kapoor scored one goal each to complete the win, while Naval Dockyard pulled one back when Milind Meher converted a penalty in the first half.

In the 11th minute, Karan with a forward pass put Reuben in the clear. Reuben kept the ball under control as he raced towards the rival and deftly beat Dockyard goalkeeper Kundan Dhanu with fine placement. 

Later, from a goal-mouth melee in front of the Dockyard goal Kastubh managed to squeeze the ball home in the 28th minute to double Catholic Gymkhana’s lead to 2-0.

On the stroke of half-time Dockyard were awarded a penalty after Kingston Pereira handled the ball in the area. Milind Meher converted from the penalty spot.

On changing ends, Reuben with a powerful low left-footer from the left side of the box beat the rival goalkeeper to increase Catholic Gymkhana’s lead (3-1). Later, Karan latched on to Reuben’s through pass and coolly slotted past an advanced goalkeeper to complete Catholic Gymkhana’s third consecutive win.

Result: Catholic Gymkhana  4 (Reuben Fernandes 2, Kastubh Meher, Karan Kapoor) beat Naval Dockyard 1 (Milind Meher).
