Top seed Purva Barve and second seed Aarya Korgaonkar had a routine day in office as they comfortably won their respective women singles round-32 matches of the Yonex Sunrise Manoj Ramchandra Memorial State Open Badminton Tournament 2026, conducted by the North Indian Association and Jitesh Padukone Academy, under the auspices of the Maharashtra Badminton Association and played at the Matunga Gymkhana courts. The tournament is being supported jointly by SVC Co-Operative Bank and Saraswat Co-Operative Bank.
Top Seed Purva Barve
Purva showed great attacking flair and excellent tactical play to outplay Ananya Rane charging to 15-0, 15-8 win, while Aarya faced a bit of resistance from Tiann Castellino before pulling through at 15-5, 15-8 to progress to the pre-quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Shiwanjali Kardile after losing the first game against Tia Ugrankar fought back to carve out a 17-19, 15-6, 15-13 victory and join the top two seeds in the next round. The third seed Shreya Bhosale and fourth seed Shreya Shelar also advanced to the round of 16.
Men’s top seed Sanklap Chandragurula, Ojas Gedam, Sujal Lakhari and Harshit Mahimkar all won their respective round of 32 matches.
In the junior competitions, Shlok Amberkar and Aadesh Ekade played with grit and determination to win their respective Boys’ U-15 round of 32 matches. Shlok rallied to defeat Aradhya Pawar 12-15, 20-18, 15-9, while Aadesh overcame Aditya Sarvade 11-15, 15-7, 15-10.
